Managed by Hilton International. Refers to Hilton Tel Aviv & Queen of Sheba Eilat
2013 was characterized by a continued growth in the tourism industry, in
accordance with Ministry of Tourism's strategy to promote activities that
contribute to realizing the hidden potential in tourism in Israel. It seems that
despite the explosive security situation in the Middle East, the tourism industry
has displayed positive data in a number of indicators.
The number of tourists arriving to Israel broke a record in 2013 and was
estimated at 2,962 thousand tourists, compared to 2,886 thousand tourists
the previous year, a growth of 3%. Outbound tourism showed a more
impressive growth in comparison to inbound tourism, with a growth of 9%
in the number of departures abroad that was totaled at 4,757 thousand
departures in comparison to 4,349 departures last year. An analysis of the
manner of Israeli's departure abroad has shown that more than 90% have
departed through the air, while the rest of the Israelis departed via sea and
the land passages.
The total income from tourism in 2013 amounted to $ 5.7 billion, a growth
of 3% in comparison to 2012. Like last year, the leading countries of origin
in tourism to Israel are the US, Russia, France, Germany and England in
accordingly. These countries share held an aggregate quantity of about 57%
of total visitor arrivals to Israel.
In 2013 the hotel revenue in Israel amounted to NIS 9.3 billion, a moderate
growth of 1%. Hotels in Eilat registered the highest income amongst cities in
Israel, NIS 2.3 billion, a growth of 4% in comparison to last year. We would
like to note that based on hotelieries' warnings in Eilat of a crash of tourism
in the city due to a worsening shortage of staff especially with summer
approaching, a request has been submitted to the government in June 2014
in order to approve hiring 1,500 Jordanian employees.
In 2013 the competition between airlines exacerbated, this based on signing the
Open Skies Agreement in 2013 which enabled foreign airlines to run reduced
price lines to destinations abroad. As a counter measure local airline company
"Elal" launched in November 2013 the flight brand "UP" which offers reduced
price flights to different destinations abroad. In addition, in December 2013
German airline company "Lufthansa" announced expanding the number of
regular flights between Germany and Israel, while at the same time the British
low-cost airline "easyJet" also announced expanding its activity in Israel as part
of implementing the agreement of opening the sky to competition.
The Fattal Hotels group is ranked in first place with an income of approximately
NIS 2,760 million, a growth of approximately 24% in relation to last year.
In second place is the Dan Hotels Corporation with earnings summed up at
approximately NIS 1,145 million, a moderate growth of approximately 1% in
comparison to 2012. In third place is Isrotel Hotel Management, who ended
the year with an income of approximately NIS 1,114 million, a growth of
approximately 13% in comparison to 2012.
